Questions and answers
Eligibility
How much can I borrow with Bear Loan?
Loan offers range from $200 to $5,000. The amount depends on your income, banking history, state of residence and the lender's criteria. Not every applicant qualifies for the maximum.
What credit score do I need?
There is no minimum credit score to request a loan. Lenders consider all credit types and weigh income and banking activity alongside credit history. A lower score may mean a smaller amount or a higher APR. See the full requirements.
Can I get a loan with bad credit?
Yes. Lenders in the network accept all credit types. If your score is low you may be offered a short-term or smaller installment loan at a higher APR. How bad-credit loans work.
Do I need a job?
You need regular, verifiable income — employment, self-employment, Social Security, disability, pension or similar. The income must arrive on a predictable schedule, ideally into your checking account.
Is there a minimum income?
It varies by lender and product. Many look for roughly $1,000 or more per month for short-term and installment loans, and more for larger personal loans.
Do I need a checking account?
Yes. Funds are deposited to and payments drawn from an active checking account in your name. Savings-only and prepaid accounts generally don't qualify.
Which states does Bear Loan serve?
Most U.S. states. Short-term loans are not offered where they're prohibited or capped; installment or personal offers may still be available there. Check your state.
Applying & approval
How does Bear Loan work?
You complete one secure request, a soft credit inquiry checks eligibility, licensed lenders respond with offers, and you e-sign the one you choose. Step-by-step guide.
Is Bear Loan a direct lender?
No. Bear Loan is a loan-connection service. Lenders in our network make the credit decision and fund the loan. We don't charge you for the service.
Will checking my rate affect my credit?
No. Requesting offers uses a soft inquiry that doesn't change your FICO score. A lender performs a hard inquiry only if you accept its offer.
How long does approval take?
Most applicants see a decision within minutes of submitting the form.
Do I need to upload documents?
Usually not. Identity, income and bank details are verified electronically. A lender may ask for a pay stub or bank statement if something can't be confirmed automatically.
Can I apply with someone else?
Loans through Bear Loan are individual. There are no co-signers or joint applications.
Rates & fees
What APR will I pay?
Installment and personal loans commonly run 9.95%–35.99% APR. Short-term loans are priced per $100 borrowed, typically $10–$15 per pay period, which annualizes to a triple-digit APR. Your exact APR is on the agreement. Rates & fees.
Does it cost anything to apply?
No. Requesting offers is free and there is no obligation to accept any offer.
Are there hidden fees?
No. Any fee — origination, late payment, returned payment — is listed on your lender's agreement before you sign, as federal Truth in Lending rules require.
Is there a prepayment penalty?
Most installment and personal loans in the network have none, so paying early saves interest.
Why is a short-term loan so expensive?
A flat $15 fee on $100 over 14 days is 15% for the period; annualized, that is about 391% APR. The dollar cost is small for a one-off, but rolling the loan over repeats the fee.
Can I see the total cost before I sign?
Yes. The agreement shows the APR, finance charge, payment schedule and total of payments.
Funding
How fast can I get the money?
Once you e-sign, funds are typically deposited by the next business day. Same-day funding may be available for agreements signed before 10 a.m. local time on a business day, depending on the lender and your bank.
How is the money sent?
By ACH deposit to the checking account you provided. Some lenders offer instant transfer to a debit card for a small optional fee.
Why hasn't my deposit arrived?
Weekends and bank holidays delay ACH. Signing after 10 a.m. usually means next business day. If it's been more than two business days, contact the lender on your agreement or our support.
Can I change the amount after approval?
Before you sign, yes — submit a new request. After signing, the amount is fixed; you may be able to request a second loan after repaying the first.
Repayment
How do I repay?
Your lender debits the account you provided on the dates in the agreement — one payday for a short-term loan, monthly for installment and personal loans. You'll get a notice before the first withdrawal.
Can I pay off my loan early?
Yes. Most installment and personal loans have no prepayment penalty, so extra payments reduce the interest you pay. Check your agreement for the exact policy.
What if I can't make a payment?
Contact your lender before the due date. Many offer a date change or an extended payment plan where state law allows. Late payments can add fees and may be reported to credit bureaus.
Is my loan reported to credit bureaus?
Installment and personal loan payments are often reported, so on-time payments can help your history. Short-term loans usually aren't reported.
Can I change my payment date?
Often, if you ask before the due date. The lender will confirm any change in writing.
